How Online Form Checks Actually Work (And Why They Catch More Than the Gym Mirror)
A look at how video form reviews work in online coaching — what to film, how feedback is delivered, and why a re-watchable review beats a one-time cue.
One of the most common worries about online coaching: "How will my coach fix my form if they are not standing next to me?" Fair question. The answer — video form reviews — usually ends up catching more than an in-person glance ever would.
What you film
It is simpler than it sounds. You record your working sets from a useful angle — usually 45 degrees for squats and deadlifts, side-on for bench. A few seconds of footage per lift is plenty.
How feedback works
Your coach watches the clip — often frame by frame — and sends back specific notes: where the bar drifted, where your brace broke down, what to cue next session. Because it is recorded, you can re-watch it as many times as you need. A cue you hear once on a noisy gym floor is gone by your next set; a written review is not.
Why it beats the mirror
- Slow-motion catches what the naked eye misses at full speed
- You see exactly what your coach sees, from the same angle
- Feedback is permanent — you keep the notes and the video
- It builds your own eye for technique over time
Video review is a core part of every ChimpFit program — across powerlifting, weight loss, and body building.
